Positively Guiding Children’s Behaviour:
Moving from Reactive to Responsive
Let’s be honest - some days can simply feel overwhelming. Behaviours escalate, tensions rise, and it can begin to feel like things are slipping out of your control. When the weight of the day builds and the energy in your program feels more reactive than responsive, it’s natural to question your impact. These challenges, however, are not a reflection of your ability or dedication. What’s needed is support that acknowledges the realities of your daily work, and that’s exactly what this workshop offers.
This session is designed to meet you where you are. You’ll deepen your understanding of child development by examining how behaviour is shaped by brain development and what is considered developmentally appropriate at different ages. These foundations equip you to respond with empathy, intention, and strategies that truly support each child’s growth.
You’ll also strengthen your ability to build safe, predictable, and responsive relationships - relationships that form the basis for emotional well-being and positive behaviour. The workshop provides practical tools for implementing respectful guidance strategies, along with effective approaches to both preventing and intervening to behavioural challenges. We’ll examine the role of co-regulation: why it matters, how it works, and how you can help children build these essential skills over time.
Additionally, we’ll consider how intentionally designed environments - supported by meaningful visuals and developmentally appropriate materials - can reinforce these relationships and foster a sense of purpose, engagement, and belonging.
You already bring your care and commitment to your work every day. This session is here to support you in doing it with greater clarity, renewed confidence, and deeper connection. Let’s reset, refocus, and move forward - together.
